The full story
1. Where it began
Abdrakhman graduated from Nazarbayev University in 2022 with a degree in Construction and Environmental Engineering. After graduating he worked rotational shifts, so work took up most of his time and there was almost nothing left for preparing applications on his own.
New York University was his dream school, and rather than postpone that goal he handed the admission process to the Mentor Me team.
2. English / IELTS
Sitting IELTS was one of the most important stages.
After preparation Abdrakhman scored IELTS 7.5, which opened the door to leading universities abroad.
3. Preparing the documents
Full preparation took about six months.
In that time every required document, reference and certificate was gathered and the submission materials were written. With Mentor Me's support the process was clearly structured, which let him prepare while working his shifts.
4. Submitting applications
New York University was Abdrakhman's main target. He also considered the University of Washington and the University of Miami.
Every stage of the submission process was handled alongside the Mentor Me team.
5. Receiving the offer
Abdrakhman received an offer from New York University for the Construction Management programme — the university that had been his goal from the start.
He is now in the second year of his master's in New York.
6. Preparing to apply
Abdrakhman considers IELTS preparation the most demanding stage. Most students, he says, see that exam as the hardest test of all.
After being admitted, though, he realised IELTS is only the first step on a path that turns out to be far easier than it looks at the beginning.
Mentor Me's support mattered most. The team stayed with him throughout, helped him meet deadlines and kept his motivation up even through a packed work schedule.
7. Result
Abdrakhman is now studying at New York University and is convinced that deciding to start this journey was one of the best investments he has made in his future.
«Don't worry too much. Applying is not some impenetrable forest. There are always people ready to help you. Treat it as a task that needs doing. The most important thing is not to be afraid to ask for help. You are investing in yourself and in your future. Every step you take, even the smallest one, brings you closer to your dream.»
